DJIBOUTI -(PP) – Security forces in Djibouti have shot dead 19 people at a religious gathering in the capital, witnesses said Monday.
Armed soldiers have reportedly raided the gathering site where hundreds of Djiboutians gathered to commemorated a late revered religious leader Sheikh Yonis Muse..
Djibouti’s interior minster told reporters that security forces raided the gathering after the government received information that gunmen were among the crowd.
The development comes as Djibouti’s opposition parties continue a political campaign aimed to unseat the long-serving president Ismail Guelleh who announced he would run for the upcoming 2016 presidential election to lead the country for the fourth time.
